The idea of starting this new serie of movie, is based of my collaboration with Yasushi Maehira and the translation of his work on the concept of local knowledge in Japan. And particularly the notion of 地域学 [chiikigaku].
It reminded me my beginning time in Japan , in 田原 [TaHara], Atsumi Hanto [渥美半] as a farmer and after in the house of Takuo, when I started to shoot very simple and short movie in the idea of a diary.
皮膚感覚 (hifukankaku) means the cutaneous sensation. I divided the surface of the screen in 16 individual screens.
Finally I was asked by Garden of Ghosts [ Nobuto Suda + Takahiro Fujiwara] to make a movie for their gig at the Euin Temple. I thought to use this idea of the screen divided in 16 little ones. But I changed the inside movie to fit with the universe of Garden of Ghosts.
Playing in a temple and its beautiful view on the garden, brought me on the way to play with the perception of space , starting point was the relationship between inside and outside in the conception of japanese garden temple.
here’s an extract of the performance, badly due to very dark situation camera we can’t see what’s happening in the garden the shadow and light in the depths of the garden :
After that show, we’ve played in nuthings in Osaka. Nobuto asked me to put the same movie. I was not sure because the performance would be completly different (no electronics) and the condition of screening also ( flat screen) but I thought it would be good test to see what’s interesting or not for the future .
here’s all the performance :
I like the idea of goings and comings between global forms ( that I would compare as kanji) and individual screens. I’m thinking about when we talked with Yasushi about the invention of local kanji by local people used to define geographical point and name.
I’ve finished a new flat screen version for the next concert in urbanguild (October 18th) and working on an installation.
...work in progress...
